EMDR & Trauma Therapy in NYC

I offer individualized, evidence-based trauma therapy thats draws from EMDR, IFS, and attachment-based approaches to help high achievers break free from patterns of people-pleasing, chronic fatigue, and self criticism.

I want to help you reconnect to your inner power and reclaim your life. You can see me in person in Brooklyn or online across New York State.

Lorena Maldonado, LCSW

Hi, I'm Lorena! I’m a licensed clinical social worker based in New York City who is deeply passionate in connecting and supporting survivors of abuse with their mental health. I work with high-achievers, people-pleasers, and those who've spent a long time holding it all together on their own. The clients I support are ready to make changes that help them build self trust, tune into their needs, and put down some of the weight they've been shouldering alone.

My approach is trauma-focused and deeply individualized. I draw from EMDR, IFS, and other experiential and depth-oriented therapies to allow for depth and a unique approach that address the root of your problems rather than symptom management. I strive to make therapy a space where every part of your story can be witnessed and held, at a pace tuned into what you need. My style is warm, compassionately direct and challenging, and deeply collaborative to help you reach the change you’re seeking.

WHO I WORK WITH

High Functioning on the Outside, Suffering Inside

Trauma-Informed Therapy for Every Part of You

Therapy should hold space for all of you, including the identities you carry, the roles you hold, and the way you move through the world. I work with people navigating race, culture, sexuality, gender, and class, alongside those carrying the weight of caregiving, ambition, or a deeply felt creative life. You are more than your symptoms, and care that sees your full context is what makes trust and safety possible in therapy. I have particular experience and care in working with:

My Therapeutic Approaches

I draw from evidence-based approaches with a trauma-informed lens. Having a diverse background helps me adapt to what you need in a given moment, whether that’s processing a specific memory, understanding a pattern that keeps repeating, or learning to regulate your nervous system. Here are the main therapeutic models I study and draw from:
